Director of Photography

Raised in a small Rocky Mountain mining town, John Mans is currently based in Boulder, Colorado. The decision to become a cinematographer was made at the age of 10 when his father gave him a Super8 camera and he filmed the 1976 Panamanian classic, Lost on Toboga Island. He further developed his craft through his teens and was amongst the first graduates from the newly established Film Program at the University of Colorado in 1985.

After more than a decade working in the camera departments of serialized television, John made the decision to pursue his passion for the outdoors and adventure. He has since enjoyed many years of traveling and working on shoots in some of the most remote and beautiful places on Earth.

Specializing in adventure photography, John is an experienced climber, an expert skier, holds a World Record for the Southernmost scuba dive and over the years has shot from the air, on land, and underwater, on every continent.

John’s years in the field have seen him acquire a range of specialized film equipment which is available for rent – 5280HD.com – and led him to invent one of the industry's most useful lens shade and accessories systems – DinkumSystems.com.
