The Endurance - Shackleton's Legendary Antarctic Expedition White Mountain Films
In 2000, I got the call of a lifetime; to join the crew of HMS Endurance on their expedition to the Weddell Sea in Antarctica, and help film b-roll of compression ice and extreme environs encountered by the men from Shackleton's legendary 1914 expedition. As an AC for cinematographer Scott Ransom, I was lucky to make several flights off the deck in the Lynx helicopters, as well as landings on the infamously remote islands of Elephant Island and South Georgia where the Endurance crew somehow survived for two frozen years. Along the way, I was the only civilian to join eight members of the Royal Marines as they undertook the ice dive that became the 2003 Guinness Book of World Record's "Southernmost Dive."
